Fall Forward | The Seventies Trend

I might not have been alive in the seventies, but I definitely know how to appreciate the fashion of that decade! There’s bell bottoms, fringe, suede and beautiful boho florals… what’s not to love? My summer outfits always tend to take a seventies boho vibe. For the summer, I love crochet, florals and fringe. But it’s time to start thinking fall forward and transitioning those boho pieces into perfect fall staples.

What really transitions the seventies trend into fall is texture and color. First of all, suede is essential! I am loving this Suede Lace Up Dress featured below and the Suede Fringe Statement Jacket. The color story is also very important. Think burgundy, mustard, browns and caramels. All of these colors will help you pull together the perfect seventies look. And last, but definitely not least…. Make sure you get some fabulous flares to go with these boho tops! You will get a ton of use out of the this fall! Check out some of my favorite seventies pieces below! My personal favorite is this Suede Sheath Dress… it’s amazing and genuine suede for only $50!

Spring Strolls in Notting Hill

Notting Hill 3

One of my favorite areas in London is the neighborhood we stayed in, Notting Hill. It’s an adorable, contemporary neighborhood where the streets are lined with beautiful Victorian homes, trendy restaurants, great shopping and of course the infamous Portobello Road Market!

Notting Hill 8

Notting Hill 4

We were lucky enough to stay in one of these magical Victorian homes in the heart of Notting Hill. It was relaxing to be able to leave the craziness of tourism in the city and come home to this charming community. It even curbed our homesickness and reminded us a bit of the painted ladies in San Francisco. I mean just look how cute these painted doors and tiled steps are, I couldn’t get enough!

One of our favorite things to do in London was exploring the city and finding new food markets. Little did we know, we were staying blocks away from one of London’s most infamous markets, Portobello Road Market. We taste-tested donuts, fudge and other deliciousness from every market we came across. Our favorite market of all ended up being the Borough Market near the London Bridge. Everything we tasted there was primo, we had to go twice because we couldn’t stop thinking about the donuts! I’m already planning my trip back to London, just for the donuts! Notting Hill 2

Feeling Blue at the Louvre

feeling blue at the louvre 4

The Louvre not only houses some of the world’s most famous art, but it’s a work of art itself! I remember sitting in French class in middle school dreaming about the day I would eat a macaron in front of the Eiffel Tower and peer into the glass pyramids of the Louvre. And let me tell you, the Louvre did NOT disappoint… and Mona Lisa says hi!

The weather was so unpredictable on these spring Parisian days so layers were key! Our days were long and consisted of waking up early for coffee and sights, walking around and exploring the city all day and ending the night with drinks and dinner. A coat was necessary for early mornings and night, but when the sun was out it got pretty warm!

This light sweater, coat and tight combination was perfect for Paris’s unpredictable state of mind. I got this bright cobalt blue statement coat right before my trip and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I don’t have a ton of need for a wool coat in San Francisco, but I definitely got my money’s worth of this one in Europe! Especially since it’s on sale for $40! Check out the rest of the outfit below and share your favorite Paris travel tips in the comments!

Pink Floppy Hat on the Pier

Lately, my outfits have been centered around my accessories. Whether it’s a hat, a bag, shoes or jewelry, these accessories seem to be dictating the rest of my outfit and I kinda love it! It’s great when a statement piece can hold it’s own in an outfit. This weekend it’s all about my pink floppy hat!

PINK FLOPPY HAT ON THE PIER

I got this Pink Floppy Felt Hat from Nordstrom for only $28 this past week. I think it creates the perfect spring look paired with black and denim basics. It seriously saved my hair this weekend! As we were walking on the pier, the wind was blowing my hair everywhere! It was perfect to tame my mane and to hide my less than perfect hair day, but still not give me hat hair!

I chose to style this hat with my Old Navy Denim Jacket and Liquid Leggings, but I think it would look just as great with a flowy maxi or jeans and a tee. Floppy hats are going to be everywhere this spring and Nordstrom has an amazing selection at really affordable prices! Shop them here before they are all gone!

Liven Up your Wardrobe with {Faux} Leather

As the days of November steadily fly by, I continue to get creative with textures. Fall is my favorite time of the year. Yes I happen to love apple cider, plaid and the cute sweater beer koozies I pull out for football games, but I also love accessorizing with layers!

Since the weather in San Francisco is pretty mild, it’s necessary to occasionally take a step back from the typical textures of chunky sweaters and fur, and focus on the lighter layers. One of my go-to textures that adds glamour and the feel of fall is leather. It’s great for when the weather is too warm to bundle up, but you’re craving texture.

I love dressing my leather pieces down by pairing them with plaid or plain v-necks. Check out the fun leather products I pulled together below. These are great pieces to pull out for the holidays or even just a night out. Share your favorite in the comments below and click to shop!

Falling for Fringe

I used to associate fringe with summer, but those days are over. I no longer reserve fringe for coachella and days at the beach. Fringe is now for all seasons and all occasions, I even dress it up for special occasions!

My favorite take on the trend for fall is leather fringe. I am obsessed with the Forever 21 jacket and the Nikki Rich Fringe Top below. The leather adds a dressy, warm, fall element to the trend. And how fun is that pop of yellow fringed clutch? It’s definitely a statement piece and is the perfect accessory for that little black dress hanging in your closet.

September RocksBox Review

The mailman came and I have a new RocksBox to share with all of you!

How it works- It’s a monthly subscription costing $19.99/month. First you create a style profile, which basically consists of a quick survey of what jewelry types, metals, etc. you prefer and a gallery of pictures where you can pick your favorite items. From that profile, three styles are picked just for you and delivered in cute little boxes wrapped up with a ribbon. Now for the fun part, you can wear the jewelry as much as you want and just as easily send them back whenever you want! There’s no timeline, you can get as many or as little boxes as you want a month. As soon as you’re ready to send them back, you drop them in the mail and three more will be sent your way. Fall in love with one of the items? No prob, keep it! You get 20% off the retail price of any piece in your box to add to your permanent collection. Below is my stash from this month’s box.

RocksBox Review Vol 02

Gorjana Mika Gold Pendant Necklace (retails at $85, member price is $68)– This necklace is both beautiful and edgy. When I received this box, I didn’t know much about Gorjana jewelry, but I could immediately tell this necklace was great quality. I love the simplicity of the shape paired with the sharpness of the triangle. It’s not like any other pendant in my collection, I already know I will get a ton of use out of it!

House of Harlow 1960 Sunburst Bangle in Black and White (retails at $68, member price is $54)– This is the second House of Harlow piece I’ve received in my RocksBox. And again, just like the last one, I LOVE the look of it, but I’m not crazy about wearing it. After it’s first wear, I noticed my last House of Harlow necklace ended up pinching my neck and this bangle is uncomfortable also. It’s not only HUGE, but also heavy. I prefer  to stack my bangles and for them to run a little smaller so they don’t slide up and down my arm all day. This bangle was so large, it couldn’t be worn with any other bangles, but besides the size, I would definitely purchase it..

Wanderlust + Co X Double Crystal Silver Ring (retails at $29, member price is $23)– This ring is a ton of fun and is different from any other ring I own! Instead of the simple circle shape, it’s actually a large “X” that takes up the area of my finger, all the way to my knuckle! It’s a ring worn to make a statement. The unusual “X” shape gives it a little bit of edge, but the rhinestones and silver color keep it dainty. For only $23, it’s a steal I don’t know if I can pass up!
